| The ARRA provides increased funding for several federally subsidized social programs, as well as for existing grants for a few basic government services such as education and law enforcement. These additional federal funds serve to stabilize services or provide temporary funding for expansion of public assistance or services. |

Federal Funds

Education
Funding for education services primarily include grants for federal initiatives such as the No Child Left Behind Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. These funds will continue to flow through the existing Federal distribution formulas. |

Labor
The ARRA provides additional funds to increase or expand unemployment benefits, job training, and job placement programs. Nebraska will have to change state law to expand unemployment benefits in order to receive some of these federal funds. |

Health and Human Services
Several federally supported social services will receive additional funding, such as assistance programs for food, housing, utilities, child care, elderly care, and health insurance. |

Law Enforcement
Additional funds are available for grant programs that assist states in combating gang violence, drug trafficking, violence against women, and internet crimes against children. These programs are also designed to provide survival and recovery assistance to victims of violent crimes. |
