TRANSPORTATION |
| The ARRA provides federal funding for capital and construction projects that can be initiated within one year or sooner. The U.S. Department of Transportation will distribute funds directly to the State, as well as political subdivisions. Examples of authorized construction projects may include rural road improvements, overpasses and interchanges, bridge replacements, and route realignments. Examples of capital investment for public transit may include facilities improvements, technology upgrades, and vehicle replacement. |

Highway Infrastructure Investment
Funds are distributed as "shovel-ready" projects are identified within the State. Priority is given to those projects which can start within 180 days and be completed within three years. |

Transit Capital Assistance
Funds are provided at the State level to distribute 90% to urban transit authorities and 10% for rural transit. Priority is given to those capital improvements which can start within 120 days. |

Grants In Aid For Airports
The Federal Aviation Administration will distribute discretionary grants to public use airports to repair and improve critical infrastructure, with emphasis on safety and capacity. |

Transportation Enhancement
A portion of the overall Highway Infrastructure funding is reserved for ancillary construction projects such as trails, bike paths, landscaping and beautification, historic preservation, and others specifically identified under current federal law. |

Bureau of Indian Affairs - Road Maintenance
The Bureau of Indian Affairs will conduct its own road and bridge maintenance projects on reservation lands throughout the nation in order to move roads from fair condition to good and excellent condition over the next two years. Also included in this program is workforce training to prepare unemployed and underemployed tribal peoples to participate in these construction projects. |

Capital Grants To The National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak)
The U.S. Secretary of Transportation will provide additional funds to Amtrak specifically to conduct projects for the repair, rehabilitation, or upgrade of railroad assets or infrastructure, and for capital projects that expand passenger rail capacity, including the rehabilitation of rolling stock. |
